Q&A with DJ Lexis

Lexis

In addition to being one of the most versatile and open-minded DJs in the city, DJ Lexis is also the founder and editor of MusicIsMySanctuary.com, an internationally-followed forum for musical discoveries. In the past year alone, he’s been rocking parties with Mary Anne Hobbs, Roska, 45 King, Onra, Take and Kris Wadsworth, among many.

Be sure to catch his opening set at 14h this Sunday July 18th, at Piknic.

Read on and find out more about this nice fella.

How did you get into this?

I grew up in a pretty artistic family, son of a musician and then i went to music school as a kid for about 8 years. But most importantly, i've always been a music nerd!

What’s your ideal setup to rock a crowd?

I think like most Dj's i like to play long sets because i play a lot of different styles and i like to connect the dots between different genres. But the most important ingredient is a crowd with an open mind.

What do you usually bring to a picnic?

Boombox and some long island iced tea.

What’s the first song that made you go crazy?

My most memorable record as kid was "Low End Theory" by A Tribe Called Quest

What’s the last song that made you go crazy?

Ah man, thats tough... There are too many! But I guess for dubstep and that UK stuff: Ramadanman, Mount Kimbie, Scuba, 2562, James Blake, Aardvarck and my mans Bowly!

What song will you never drop?

I have a long list of those... I guess I just don't say yes to those gigs.

Funniest request you’ve ever gotten?

The ever popular "something to dance to"... Stupidest request to ask

Most memorable DJ experience?
I'm a big fan of The Goods monthly in Montreal, people just have an open mind and you can play whatever you want. But honestly I have fun playing very different gigs from time to time...

I say Piknic, you say...
