REVIEW OF THE 4th OF JULY

Hard to ask more of Mother Nature than the good times that we had last Sunday. We keep asking her to spoil us, and she keeps giving in! Was it ever hot. And while we’d rather complain about the discomfort sometimes, don’t tell her we said so, but we really do appreciate Mama Nature’s homespun generosity.

As a result, those who came out last Sunday were joining a mass sweat-fest, and it’s a credit to our audiences that the day didn’t smell anywhere as bad as that may sound. Between the bright sunbeams and the beats provided by Mat_Moebius, Yankat and Krafty Kuts, temptations were at an all-time high to kick off our shoes, down a cucumber cocktail and join the hardcore contingent who would even find a reason to dance in hell.

Naturally, The Calder was calling us like a giant air-conditioner. After a valiant set by Mat-Moebius that succeeded in pulling Piknicers onto the dancefloor, an energetic Yankat took over with brio and gave the heat a run for its sweaty money.

We couldn’t let the whole day pass without a visit to the STM stag, where Montreal collective Eresys were churning out minimal house that was threatening to win over most of the people who were usually under The Calder, Leboucher , Mono-poly and Kasteniede made the STM proud, and may have even earned themselves free metro passes in the process.

Of course, we were all waiting for Krafty Kuts to finally take the main stage, and when he did we were privy to an amalgamation of drum n’ bass, classic pop, rock and funk. It was more than enough to pull the grass n’ blankets crowd onto the feet and get everyone singing along to songs they never knew they liked.
