A native of Montreal, FancyFhreek’s Martin draws inspiration from a group of Dj’s and producers that includes Plastikman, Sven Väth, Deep Dish, Carl Cox, and Misstress Barbara, all of whom possess styles that have found their way into his sets. Since 2005, Fancyfhreek has been manipulating vinyl and CDJ’s, and he is currently a resident at Circus Afterhours as well as Salon Pearl, where he also serves as booker and promoter.
In little over a year, this natural born entertainer has taken hold of the electronic beats scene across Canada, Europe and the US, and set ears and heads ablaze with his mixture of beats, bass, and splintered electronica. Taking cues from Autechre, Bangladesh, Dilla, and the Ed Banger clique, Lunice knows exactly how to craft a recipe that makes dance floors bump and bass bins thump. No wonder he has remixes out on Big Dada, Top Billin, Young Turks and a solo EP coming forth on Lucky Me.
Major Lazer is a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984. The US military rescued him and repurposed experimental lazers as prosthetic limbs. Since then Major Lazer has been a hired renegade soldier for a rogue government operating in secrecy underneath the watch of M5 and the CIA. His cover is that of a dancehall nightclub owner from Trinidad and he enlisted the help of long-time allies and uber-producers, Diplo and Switch, to produce his first LP.
First and foremost a musician with 10 years of classical music under his belt, Mossa's instrumental background comes to color his electronic compositions. He released on labels like Cynosure, Mos Ferry, Morris Audio, and has been remixed by supreme producers like Swayzak, Mike Shannon, John Tejada, and Ark. In 2006, he released his debut album Some Eat it Raw on Circus Company, and in 2010 his second Festine followed. With his record label Complot, Mossa is also dedicated to releasing, along with fellow artists, an uncompromising style in house/techno music.
“Round Table Knights have impressed me loads this year, not only playing the best house sets of 2009 but coming with sum really original productions as well,” says Jesse Rose, owner of Made to Play Records, where the group has begun to release their singles. Also releasing on Mowgli’s Deadfish label, the Swiss producers describe themselves as “having the wind at their backs on a ten year journey from the Swiss province to the high plateaus of contemporary dance music.”
