Dividing his time between Tokyo and Toronto, Terence Kissner has been part of the Canadian invasion that has permeated the hearts of the international dance community. Between landing residencies at some of Tokyo's most coveted nightclubs and touring Japan on numerous occasions, he continues to make his mark both in front of the turntables, and behind the scenes working as a DJ, promoter and graphic designer with Toronto’s AFE SOCIETY events and clothing brand. His most recent endeavours find him in the studio with his production partner Brian Johnson, working on music under the moniker DUGDIG, as well as his own solo project.
Emerging from Montreal’s Peer Pressure party crew, Matt Morien (aka DJ Hatchmatik) is a well-known DJ and producer in the Montreal scene. Initially a B-boy turned professional dance and visual artist, the success of Peer Pressure has led to Morien’s focus on music full-time. As Peer Pressure parties have grown in size and reputation, Hatchmatik has drawn strong media attention and a slew of remixes for artists such as Thunderheist, MIA, Adam Kesher, and Chromeo. In 2009, Hatchmatik was selected to URB magazine’s Next 100 list.
Since 1997, James Taylor and David Brown have been plying their trade as the influential underground electronic act Swayzak. In that time they have released 5 studio albums and 2 DJ compilations, which have awoken the world of electronic music to their signature sound. They have surfed the genres of minimal, deep house, dub techno, electro pop, glitch house and click pop to make the Swayzak sound! One of the few electronic bands that plays truly live, their sets are never rehearsed or even pre-recorded. Their live set is as live as can be as two men with laptops, mixer and outboard effects mix in the spirit of dub. Neither knows what the other is planning next!
Southwest Londoner Mark Pember (aka Meat Katie) has had a long history in dance music. In his time, he has recorded for such prestigious labels such as Wall of Sound, R&S Records, Kingsize, Bedrock, Perfecto, Great Stuff, Renaissance, and Saw, not to mention his first record deal, in which he was signed to Iggy Pop’s Kill City Records as a bass player in 3-piece skate punk band Sandladder. Pember has also remixed/collaborated with Arthur Baker, U.N.K.L.E, Boy George, Deep Dish, D. Ramirez, Peace Division, Chicken Lips, Robbie Rivera & James Zabelia, to name but a few.
Pheek is native Montrealer, Jean-Patrice Rémillard’s techno project. He has played at events such as MUTEK and Piknic as well as countless intimate gigs, where he has transported his audience on a colourful narrative journey through sound. With 10 albums produced and the creation of his label, Archipel Musique, Pheek’s reputation as a dedicated sound designer is unparalleled.
Quentin is embarking on a tour of the world with his girlfriend. For real. But the 2010 version of the trip, with laptops and synthesizers in the bags. Quentin is thinking he’d like to live off his music, with a little bit of love and fresh water to help things along. A guitarist in the metal group 8 Control, it’s not exactly part of his personality to spread love and sell a few records. His EP Reign in Blood (the title’s more for glamour than anything else) was remixed by the Toxic Avenger, and the resulting track really hits you in the face. Montreal is the first stage in his world tour. Can you guess who’s taking him on for his first North American date? Piknic Électronik, of course!
